THE TRANSPOSITION SERIES
"THE TRANSPOSITION SERIES" IS A SERIES OF AIRBRUSHED PAINTINGS INSPIRED BY A FAMILY MEMBER'S HEART CATHETERIZATION FILM. AT THE TIME, I HAD THE SENSE OF "LIFE IMITATING ART" SINCE I HAD BEEN WORKING WITH SIMILAR FORMS IN MY PAINTINGS AND DRAWINGS FOR YEARS. THE ABSTRACT TUBULAR FORMS I HAD BEEN PAINTING NOW BEGAN TO REFER TO AN INTERNAL, MICROCOSMIC SPACE. WITH THIS GROUP OF PAINTINGS, TRANSPARENT FORMS WERE INTRODUCED, AS WELL AS FORMS TRAVELING WITHIN FORMS, AND FORMS PIERCING AND PASSING THROUGH EACH OTHER.
TUBULAR ABSTRACTIONS
THE SUBJECT OF THESE AIRBRUSH PAINTINGS IS THE PASSAGE OF TUBULAR FORMS THROUGH ILLUSORY SPACE. ALTHOUGH THE GENESIS OF THESE FORMS WAS THE HUMAN FIGURE, THEY HAVE ENDURED SEVERAL TRANSMUTATIONS RESULTING IN A GENERALIZED, ANONYMOUS FORM WHICH MORE READILY EVOKES ASSOCIATIONS WITH OTHER OBJECTS FROM THE VIEWER'S ENVIRONMENT AND EXPERIENCE. THE FORMS ARE PAINTED IN A MANNER THAT IMPLIES THAT THEY HAVE ACTUAL CORPORALITY, AND ARE REALISTIC AND BELIEVABLE. THEY SEEM FAMILIAR AND IDENTIFIABLE, AND YET THEY ARE ARTIFICE. THEY INTERACT WITH EACH OTHER IN A BACKGROUND SPACE WHICH IS EQUALLY AMBIGUOUS , YET CREDIBLE. AS A RESULT OF THIS, WHEN ADDRESSING THE ARTWORK, THE VIEWER IS ASKED TO INTEGRATE AND INTERPRET THE AMBIGUOUS INFORMATION PRESENTED IN THE PAINTINGS.
